ArtsLIVE Releases "Buy Local Art - Made In Iowa" Sticker Campaign
ArtsLIVE is pleased to announce the release of the first sticker in a collector's edition series of “Buy Local Art – Made in Iowa” campaign. These collector stickers will be released on a quarterly basis, each featuring a different local artist and sponsor from a local business or individual. ArtsLIVE is a partnership to promote the arts year 'round in and beyond the Creative Corridor in Northwest Iowa. The sticker campaign is to bring awareness of area artists and the business or individuals who support the arts and culture of our region.
ArtsLIVE is proud to feature photographer, David Thoreson, sponsored by Northwest Bank in Okoboji, for the sticker campaign introduction. This sticker will be released on May 6th, 2009, and is available to the public at no charge at Northwest Bank’s, Okoboji branch.
Since 1984, Thoreson has traveled nationally and internationally; shot for the U.S. National Park Service; bicycled 10,000 miles solo around the U.S. and Canada; sailed 36,000 miles around the planet, including both polar regions; and crossed the Atlantic three times by sail. David was selected in 2005 as one of the top three explorers from the state of Iowa. He just completed the historic Northwest Passage by sail during the summer of 2007. David premiered his new documentary in 2008, "Arctic Journey in a Changing World," on PBS. He is speaking nationally on issues of exploration and climate change including the first 2008 World Science Festival in NYC.
David's work has been featured at the Smithsonian Institute, numerous publications, books, and award-winning Public Television documentaries. His exhibit, "20 Years, 20 Stories," is currently touring with funding from a humanities grant.
Studio/Gallery: David opened Blue Water Studios, near West Lake Okoboji, Iowa, in 1996. The studio offers original and stock photography, fine art prints, and updates on his sailing adventure. Please visit www.bluewaterstudios.com for more information.
